About Hargobind Rice & Gen. Mill – Food & Beverages in Fazilka
Hargobind Rice & Gen. Mill is based out of Village Salani. It’s a small operation compared to the big industrial plants you see in the cities. We prefer it that way. Being in the village means we are close to the fields and the people who actually grow the rice. Our day starts early, usually before the sun is even fully up. We have to get the boilers going and check the belts on the machinery. There’s always something that needs oiling or tightening. It's a hands-on job. We don't have an office staff; if you call, you’re likely talking to one of us who just stepped away from a machine. We handle rice and some other general milling when the need arises. The village of Salani is a quiet place most of the year, but during the paddy season, it really wakes up. There is a lot of shouting and the sound of engines everywhere. We don't try to impress anyone with fancy talk or big claims. We just mill the grain, bag it, and move it out. It’s a repetitive job, but there is a certain rhythm to it that we like. We’ve been here for years, and most of the locals know our faces. We just want to do a decent job and keep the mill running for another season. It isn't much, but it’s our livelihood and we stick to it. We don't have plans to go anywhere else. We like it right here in the village.
