Durga Rice Mill

Durga Rice Mill is situated on a link road just off Malout Road, near the village of Korian Wali. It is a rural setting, so things are usually a bit quieter here than in the big grain markets, except for the sound of our own machines. When the milling season is on, the place transforms into a hub of activity with tractors and trailers coming in from the link road. We spend our days surrounded by piles of paddy and the constant rhythm of the processing units. The mill itself is an older structure, built for function rather than looks, with plenty of space for storage and loading. Working here means getting used to the dust and the heat, especially during the peak harvest months. We have a small area where we sit to take our meals and handle the basic bookkeeping that comes with the trade. The location in Vill Korian Wali is convenient for the local farmers who don't want to travel all the way into the main town. We see the same people every season, and we’ve gotten used to the patterns of the local agriculture. Sometimes the machinery breaks down and we have to spend half the day fixing it, but that is just part of the job. It isn't a glamorous life, but it is what we know. We keep the gates open and the belts moving as long as there is work to be done.
