About D. M. Rice Mills – Food & Beverages in Fazilka
If you head down Mudki Road, you will eventually come across D. M. Rice Mills. It is tucked away a bit, but the tall chimneys usually give it away from a distance. The mill isn’t anything special to look at, just some grey walls and a big open courtyard for drying. We have been operating here for a while now, mostly dealing with whatever the local fields bring in. The workers here spend a lot of time checking the machines because they tend to act up when the load gets too heavy. Mudki Road isn't the smoothest path, so the tractors have a bit of a bumpy ride getting in here. We spend our mornings drinking tea and talking about the rain before we get the motors started. The office is just a tiny room with a wooden chair and a lot of dust on the windows. We don't really have any big plans for the future or fancy speeches. We just want to make sure the rice is cleaned and packed by the end of the shift. Sometimes the bags pile up so high you can't see the other side of the warehouse. It’s a dirty job and by the end of the day, everyone is covered in fine white dust. That is just how life is at a rice mill. We close the gates late and start all over again the next day.
