Shri Ashoka Rice Mill

You can find Shri Ashoka Rice Mill situated in the Sirhind Mandi area, which is part of District Fatehgarh Sahib. We are located near City Road, so there is always a lot of movement around us. The Mandi is a hectic place, especially when the grain starts arriving in bulk. It is loud and there are people everywhere shouting and moving sacks. Our mill fits right into that environment. We have been here for years, watching the town grow around the Mandi. The building is functional and mostly made of brick and corrugated metal. We spend our mornings checking the machinery and our afternoons actually processing the grain. It gets very hot inside during the summer months, but that is part of the job. We have a small crew of workers who handle the heavy lifting. They are good people who work hard. We do not have any big mission statement or corporate goals. We just want to process the rice and get it out to where it needs to go. Sometimes the machines break down and we have to spend the whole night fixing them, which is a real pain. But then the next day the rice is flowing again and things feel normal. If you walk down City Road toward the Mandi, you will smell the parboiled rice long before you see our sign. It is a very specific smell that defines our lives here.
