R.K. Rice Mill

If you head down towards Ghagga Mandi in the Tehsil- Patran area, you will find us working at R.K. Rice Mill. It is a busy place, especially when the market is full of people and tractors. We have been sitting here at this spot for quite some time now. The yard is usually covered in husks, and the air smells like dry straw most of the year. We don't really do anything besides the rice work. It starts early when the first loads arrive, and it doesn't really stop until the sun is well down. The weighbridge gets a lot of use, and sometimes there is a line stretching out onto the road. We try to keep things moving so nobody gets too frustrated. My uncle used to say that a mill never sleeps during the season, and he was right about that. The metal roof makes a lot of noise when it rains, so we have to shout a bit to hear each other. We have a small room where we keep the ledgers and a couple of old chairs for visitors. It isn't a place for sitting around much though. There is always a bag that needs moving or a machine that needs a bit of grease. We just focus on getting the work done day by day without much fuss. It is simple work, really.
