Maha Luxmi Rice Traders

Maha Luxmi Rice Traders is over on Sangrur Road in Patran Mandi. Being in the mandi means it's always hectic. There are always people shouting prices and laborers carrying heavy sacks on their backs. We focus on the trading side of things mostly. We have a big space for storage where we keep the rice after it’s been processed. The floor is concrete and stays cool even when it’s hot outside. We spend a lot of time on the phone, talking to different people about where the grain is going next. It’s a lot of coordination. Sometimes the trucks show up late and it messes up the whole schedule. We just have to deal with it. My father started this, and now I’m here most days. We have a small room we use as an office with a fan that clicks every time it rotates. It’s not the quietest place to work. The dust from the mandi comes in through the doors, so we are always dusting off the ledgers. We don't really have a website or anything like that. We just do business face to face or over the phone. It’s simpler that way. You get to know people over the years. Some of the farmers have been coming to us since I was a kid. It’s just a regular business on a busy road. We do our part. Sometimes we stay until late at night just to finish the paperwork before the next morning rush.
