Maa Ambe Rice Mill

We operate out of Landha village, right here in the Payal area of Ludhiana district. Being in Punjab, rice is what everyone knows and what we do every single day at the mill. The facility is located in a quiet spot near Bowani. It can get pretty dusty when the machines are running but that’s part of the job. We spend most of our mornings checking the grain and making sure the machinery is greased up properly. My clothes usually have a bit of husk on them by noon. Farmers from around the village bring their loads in and we get to work. It is noisy and hot inside during the peak season, especially when the sun is beating down on the roof. We don't have a big office with air conditioning or anything like that. Just a simple desk where we keep the ledger and talk to the guys who drop off the crops. The roads out here aren’t always the smoothest so getting the trucks in and out takes some patience. Sometimes the power goes out and we just sit around and wait for it to come back so we can finish the batch. It is honest work and keeps us busy throughout the year. If you find yourself in Landha, you’ll see the mill. It’s been standing there for years and we don’t plan on going anywhere else. It is just a part of the landscape here now.
