Jai Bhagwati Rice Mill

Jai Bhagwati Rice Mill is way out on Butta Singh Wala Road in the Ghagga area of Tehsil Patran. It is a bit of a drive to get out here, but this is where the land is open and the rice grows thick. The mill is a collection of large sheds that have seen better days. The corrugated metal roofs rattle whenever a strong wind blows across the fields. We handle a lot of the local harvest from around Patran and Ghagga. It’s a very practical setup. We have the cleaning area, the hullers, and the packing section all laid out in a way that made sense forty years ago. There is no marketing team here, just a few of us who know how to fix a jammed conveyor belt with a hammer. The road outside can get very muddy during the monsoons, making it hard for the trucks to pull in. We spend those days doing maintenance inside where it’s dry. The smell of parboiled rice is always hanging in the air. We don't have a website or any glossy brochures to show people. If someone wants to know about us, they just show up at the gate and ask. We deal with the farmers directly, and there is a lot of back-and-forth about the price and the weight. It is an honest day's work and we don't try to make it sound like anything else.
