Durga Rice Mills

You can find us on Nabha Road in the village of Chaswal, near Bhadson. It is a quiet spot until the harvest starts, and then it gets really crowded with trailers full of paddy. The mill itself has a tin roof that makes a lot of noise when it rains. We spend a lot of time in the yard, checking the arrivals and making sure the weights are correct. The scales we use are old but they are very accurate. Inside the mill, it smells like toasted grain and a bit of oil from the motors. We don't have a big marketing department or anyone to write fancy things about us. We just focus on the rice. Sometimes the power supply in the village is a bit irregular, so we have to use the generator, which adds even more noise. We have a small staff of local guys who live nearby. Most of them walk or cycle to work every day. We know their families and they know ours. It is that kind of place. We keep the machines well-oiled and try to stay ahead of the schedule. If you stop by, you might have to wait a minute while we finish loading a truck. We don't have a lot of chairs for visitors, usually just a wooden bench by the gate. It is a simple operation and we like it that way. We just keep working until the job is done for the day and the yard is clear.
