Shiv Shakti Rice Mill

We are located right on Tohana Road, not too far from the main bus stand, so there is always a lot of noise and people moving around outside. Being so close to the bus stand means we see a lot of travelers and drivers passing through every day, though they usually don't stop here unless they have business with the mill. The building itself has seen better days, with some peeling paint and a roof that we have to patch up every now and then after a heavy rain. Inside, the noise of the hullers and polishers is so loud that you have to shout to be heard, but you get used to it after a week or two. We handle a lot of grain throughout the year, and the smell of raw rice and dry husks is something that stays in your clothes long after you go home. It is a lot of manual labor, stacking heavy sacks into high piles and then loading them back onto trucks when it is time for them to leave. We don't really do any big advertising or have a corporate setup. It is just a local operation where the owners and the workers are usually doing the same jobs side by side. Some days are slow and we just sit around talking about the weather, but during peak times, we are here from dawn until late at night just trying to keep up with the work.
