Captain Maharaj Singh Social Welfare Foundation

Down in Mohamdabad, near Farrukhabad, you'll find the Captain Maharaj Singh Social Welfare Foundation. It’s basically run by Ketki Yadav, who is Rati Bhan’s wife, and a couple of others from the family. We aren't some big organization with a board of directors. We’re just local people who care about what happens in our town. The foundation is named after the Captain, and we try to live up to that name by helping out where we can. Our office is just a part of the house, so you might hear the kitchen noises or the kids playing while we work. It’s a very local thing. We don't have a website with fancy photos. If someone has a problem, they usually just walk up to the door and knock. We spend a lot of time talking to the elders and seeing what the youth need. Farrukhabad is a place where everyone knows everyone, so you can't really hide. We try to be useful. Sometimes the work is just helping someone fill out a form or making sure a family has enough for the week. It’s not glamorous, and the pay isn't really there, but it feels right. We just want to see our neighbors doing okay. We take things one day at a time and try not to get overwhelmed by all the needs we see.
