Shivam Handloom

134 Chawla Colony is where we spend most of our waking hours. Shivam Handloom is tucked into this part of Faridabad City, and it feels like a real neighborhood spot where everyone knows each other. We do not have those big glass windows like the malls do. Instead, we have heavy wooden doors and a lot of shelf space that goes all the way to the ceiling. Handloom stuff is heavy, so my arms usually ache by the end of the day from lifting bundles of bedsheets and curtains. We keep the floor swept, but dust from the road always finds its way in somehow. Most of our regulars live just a few streets away. They come in to touch the fabric and see if the weight is right for what they need at home. We do not really do much fancy talk here. If a piece of cloth has a small knot in the weave, we point it out because that is just how handloom is. The back room is a bit of a mess with old ledgers and empty chai cups. We should probably clear it out, but there is never enough time between customers. During the monsoon, the street outside gets a bit muddy, so we have to be careful that people wipe their feet before stepping onto the rugs. It is a simple business. We open up, we sell some cloth, we talk to the neighbors, and then we lock up when the sun goes down.
