We are over here in Sector-5, specifically at plot number 02 in the industrial area. Lakhani Armaan Shoes has been running from this spot for a good while now. If you walk into the factory, the first thing you notice is the sound of the heavy machines clicking and humming. It’s pretty loud, but we’re used to it. Our day starts early, usually before the sun gets too hot over the industrial sheds. We have heaps of rubber soles and rolls of fabric sitting around the workspace. There’s a lot of dust because that’s just how it is when you’re making footwear in bulk. Our workers come from all over the nearby colonies, and we’ve seen faces stay with us for years. The tea breaks are the best part of the afternoon when everyone stands outside the gate for a bit. We don't have a fancy lobby or anything like that. It's just a place where we get the shoes put together and boxed up. Sometimes the shipments get delayed because of the trucks blocking the narrow roads in the sector, but we manage. It’s honest work, and our hands are usually stained with glue or ink by the time we head home. We just keep the production line moving and try to make sure every pair that leaves here is decent. It’s not a glamorous life, but it keeps us busy and the neighborhood moving.
