Ambica Auto Centre

Ambica Auto Centre is over here in Tagore Garden at Shivaji Market, specifically at D-44. If you walk through the market, you can usually hear the sound of wrenches hitting the floor or an engine revving up. We have been in this spot for a long time now. The shop is not a fancy place with a glass front. It is a real workshop where things get greasy and the floor stays a bit dirty no matter how much we sweep. We spend most of our time under hoods or looking at tires. D-44 is just a small space packed with parts and tools. The tea stall nearby is where we get our morning start every day. It’s just how things go in Tagore Garden. We open up the heavy shutters early in the morning and stay until the sun goes down. Inside, it smells like old oil and rubber. We don’t have comfortable chairs for people to sit and wait. Most people just stand around the market and talk while we look at their cars. The sun hits the front of the shop in the afternoon and it gets pretty warm inside. We just keep moving through the heat. There is always a scooter or a car needing something fixed. We know all the neighbors and the regular cars that park around here. It is just us working every day, trying to get the jobs done and keeping things simple.
