We are based out of Sanjay Memorial Industrial Estate, specifically at number 89 on Mathura Road. This whole area is nothing but factories and warehouses, so it can get quite loud and busy during the work week. Our shed is one of the older ones in the 20/2 block. It’s got high ceilings and a lot of grease on the floor, which is pretty much expected in our line of work. We spend most of our time maintaining the machines and making sure the production line doesn't stop. It’s not the kind of work you can do without getting your hands dirty. We started out with just a small set of tools and a second-hand lathe machine. Over time, we’ve added more, but the way we work hasn't changed much. We focus on the metal and the precision of the cuts. There’s no big corporate board here, just me and a few supervisors who have been in the trade for thirty years. We eat our lunch in the small room at the back and talk about how much the price of raw materials has gone up. Sometimes we have to work on Sundays if a big order is due, but we try to keep a normal schedule. It’s hard work, but there is a certain satisfaction in seeing a finished part ready to go out the door. We just keep our heads down and work.
