Hathiyawali Farmer Producer Company Limited is rooted right here in the village of Hathiyavali, which is near Daulatpur and Farah. Subhash Chand, the son of Om Prakash, helps keep things organized for all of us. Our office is basically his home, which is where most of the important conversations happen over a quick cup of tea. Being a farmer in this part of the country means you’re always at the mercy of the seasons and the rain. We formed this group because we realized that if we all pooled our resources, we might actually have a chance at making things a bit more stable for our families. It’s a lot of work, and none of us were really trained to run a company. We are learning as we go, dealing with the government rules and the business side of things while still spending our days out in the dirt. You’ll often find us at Subhash’s place, looking at maps of the fields or talking about the latest prices in the local market. It’s a community thing more than a big business thing. Everyone knows Om Prakash’s family, so people feel comfortable coming by to talk or ask for advice. We don't have a glossy brochure or a fancy website to show off. We just have our names and our word. It’s about keeping the traditions of Hathiyavali alive while trying to find a few new ways to make the farm pay for itself. It’s honest work, even if it is tiring.
