Hira Public School

Hira Public School is situated in Hanswar, which is part of Ambedkar Nagar. It is a rural area and things are pretty simple around here. The school building stands on a plot of land that is easy to find once you get into the Hanswar locality. We have students coming from all the surrounding hamlets. Some walk quite a distance to get here every morning. The classrooms have wooden desks and blackboards that we use for the lessons. We don’t have much in the way of high-tech gadgets, just books and chalk. During the rainy season, the roads around here get quite muddy, which makes it hard for the kids to arrive on time. We just wait for them and start the day when enough people have shown up. The staff mostly comes from the same area, so everyone knows everyone else’s business. It is a friendly place but we keep the rules about attendance and homework. In the afternoons, the sun beats down on the courtyard and the kids sit under the trees if it gets too hot inside. We provide a space for learning and that is about it. There are no big promises or fancy words. We just do the teaching and the kids do the learning. It has been this way for years and we don't expect it to change much. We are just glad to provide a school for the local Hanswar families.
