If you go towards the Long Shri Mandir in Bharthana, you’ll find us in Gandhi Nagar. We are Umang Masala. The temple bells ring a lot, which is actually quite nice to hear while we work. We spend our days with big piles of coriander, cumin, and dried chilies. The smell is very strong. If you aren't used to it, you might sneeze a lot. We have a few grinders that make a lot of noise. It’s a family-run thing, mostly. We don't have a fancy website or a marketing person. My nephew helps with the accounts on his laptop, but the rest of us are hands-on. We buy the raw spices and turn them into the powders people use for their dinner. It’s simple work but it’s important. We have customers who have been buying from us since we opened. We don't use any fancy packaging, just plain bags with our name stamped on them. Sometimes the electricity goes off and everything stops. We just sit outside and talk until it comes back. It’s a slow life in some ways but busy in others. We don't have a "mission statement" on the wall. We just have a calendar and a clock. We show up, do the grinding, pack the masala, and go home to our families. It’s a good life here in Bharthana. We don't need much more than that to keep us happy and busy with our work.
