Life at our Auraiya branch in Navin Basti is pretty straightforward. Being located in Pratapnagar means we are right in the heart of things here in Bidhuna. The office is a simple building, nothing like the big glass towers you see in the cities. We deal with a lot of local stuff, and because we’re in U.P., the power goes out now and then, so we just wait for the generator to kick in. The streets outside are usually narrow and crowded with rickshaws and people going about their business. We know most of the neighbors, and they know us as the Larsen & Toubro lot. We spend our mornings going through the mail and catching up on what happened the day before. There’s a certain pace to life here that you don’t find elsewhere. It isn't fast, but it’s constant. We have a small desk for the clerk and a slightly bigger one for the supervisor. The walls are covered with old calendars and a few maps of the local area. When it rains, the sound on the roof is so loud we can hardly hear each other talk. We just wait it out. Lunch is usually a shared affair with everyone bringing something different. It’s a humble setup, but it works for what we need to do. We don't worry about being fancy; we just want to get the day's work done without too much fuss.
