Dlf Laing O Rourke India Ltd. has a presence right here in Village Kukpur. Our mail comes through the Beena post office in the Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh. It is a very rural setting, which is quite different from the big urban projects the company usually handles. We set up here because there is work to be done in this specific region. The office is just a simple building that we use to keep the records and meet with the local laborers. It is surrounded by fields and small homes. During the monsoon, the roads around Kukpur can get a bit muddy, but we manage to keep things moving regardless of the weather. We don't have any shiny glass walls or air conditioning in every room. It’s a place where you wear your boots and don't worry about a little dust on the paperwork. The staff here is mostly focused on the day-to-day operations on the ground. We talk to the village elders and make sure we aren't getting in anyone's way while we work. It’s an honest way to make a living and the days go by fast. There aren't any big speeches or marketing brochures here. If someone wants to know what we are doing, they just walk up and ask us. We have been part of this community for the duration of the project. We are just a bunch of guys doing construction work in a quiet corner of UP.
