Vidhika Departmental Store

Vidhika Departmental Store is tucked away at 21, Sokkampatti Pirivu, which is right near the Nggo Colony. Most of our customers come from the colony, so we see the same people almost every day. It’s a regular shop with shelves full of whatever we can get in stock, from soaps to snacks. The floor is a bit worn down from people walking in and out, and the lights sometimes flicker if the weather is bad. We spend our mornings checking the dates on the milk and bread and making sure the fridge is actually staying cold. It’s not like those big fancy stores in the city; we just have what people need for their daily cooking. There’s always a bit of a mess near the back where we keep the empty crates. Sometimes we run out of change, so we have to ask the neighbor if they have any small notes. It’s a bit of a squeeze when more than four people are in the aisles at once. We don’t do much advertising or anything like that. People just know we’re here at Sokkampatti Pirivu. The street outside can get a bit muddy when it rains, but folks still make their way over. We just stay behind the register, talking about the weather or the local news while we work. The fan behind the counter is a bit noisy, but it helps with the heat when the shop gets full.
