The Chennimalai Jeeva Weavers Co. Op. Prod. & Sale Society Ltd.

We are located at No. C.H. 28 here in Chennimalai. The full name is The Chennimalai Jeeva Weavers Co. Op. Prod. & Sale Society Ltd., which is a bit of a mouthful. We have our post box, No. 73, for the official letters. Mostly, we are just a group of weavers who pooled resources to keep the tradition going. It’s hard work, and the building isn't anything special to look at, but it serves our purpose. We have our looms set up and we spend the better part of our day there. The society handles the production and then we try to find buyers for what we make. It’s a collective effort, so everyone has a say in how things are going, which can get loud during meetings. We don't use any fancy language to describe what we do. We just make cloth. Some of us have been doing this since we were kids, learning from our parents. The space at C.H. 28 is usually full of the smell of yarn and the sound of the equipment running. We don't have a big corporate office or a PR person. We just have our hands and the machines. If you come by, you’ll just see people working. We stay busy with the orders we have and try to keep things moving forward as best as we can. It's just a regular local society for the weavers here in this part of town.
