This place is the Chennimalai Indl. Weavers'S Co. Op. P & S Society Ltd. You can find us over at No. A.A. 399 in Chellam. We’ve got our post box there too, No. 38, for when mail actually comes through. Being a cooperative means there’s a lot of us involved in the daily running of things. It isn't always smooth, but we make it work somehow. We spend most of our time dealing with the production side and then trying to get the sales sorted out. It’s a lot of organizing. The weavers are the main part of the society, obviously. We have a lot of history in Chennimalai, and this society has been a fixture here for a long time. The office is usually a bit messy with paperwork and samples of the fabric we’re working on. It’s a practical setup, nothing for show. We just open up in the morning and start the day’s tasks. Sometimes we’re debating over the best way to handle a batch of cloth, and other times it’s quiet because everyone is busy at their stations. We don't have a huge marketing budget or anything like that. We just rely on the work we’ve been doing for years. People in Chellam know us, and we mostly deal with folks who understand how these cooperatives operate. It’s just regular work for us, day in and day out, making sure the looms stay active.
