Over in Periya Semur, right off Sathy Road, our sizing mill has its own little corner in Arjuna Nagar. Rithik Sizing Mills is the kind of place where you’ll find yarn being processed from dawn until late in the evening. Sizing is a messy job sometimes, with all the starch and the heat needed to dry the threads. The air inside stays pretty warm because of the machinery, but that is just how it is in this line of work. Being in Erode, we are surrounded by other textile businesses, so the whole neighborhood smells like fabric and industrial starch. Our building at 36/1A isn't anything special to look at, just a sturdy place to house the big rollers and tanks. The guys who work here are mostly locals who have been in the textile trade since they were young. They know how to handle the yarn so it doesn't snap under the tension of the machines. We spend a lot of time checking the mix for the sizing bath to get the stiffness right for the weavers who take the yarn next. It’s a practical environment where we don't worry much about how things look as long as the yarn is coming off the rollers correctly. Sathy Road is always busy, so there’s a constant backdrop of traffic noise. We just focus on the work at hand and try to stay on top of the daily pile of yarn that arrives at our door.
