About Raaj Jaggery Farm – Food & Beverages in Erode
Our farm is located in Paramathi Velur, and we have been working the land here for quite some time now. Making jaggery is what we do every day. It is hard work, especially when the sun is really beating down on the fields. You can smell the sweetness in the air when we are boiling the juice down. It’s a process that takes a lot of patience and manual labor. We don't use a lot of fancy machinery; we mostly stick to the ways things have been done here for years. The ground in Paramathi Velur is good for the cane, so that helps us out quite a bit. We spend most of our mornings out there and the afternoons are spent at the boiling units. It is not a clean or easy job, and we usually go home covered in dust and sugar. People from around the village know where to find us if they want a block of fresh jaggery. We don't have a big office or anything, just the farm and the production area. It is just a family-run kind of thing where everyone pitches in. The weather mostly dictates how our week is going to go. If it rains, things slow down. If it is dry, we keep the fires going. It is just basic farming and making a product that people use in their kitchens. We just keep the tradition going as best as we can without making things complicated.
