Imayavaramban Rural Economic Developmentfederation works out of No. 7/58 in Panang Kattur, Vadugapalayam. Out here, things move a bit slower than in the city. We are mostly concerned with how people are making a living in these rural areas. Farming is the big thing, but there are other ways folks get by too. We spend a lot of time out in the fields or sitting under a tree talking to farmers about their crops and the prices they’re getting. Our office in Vadugapalayam is just a place to store some files and have a cup of tea. It’s not impressive, but it’s where we meet. We don't have any big funding from overseas. It’s mostly just local resources and people putting in their time. Sometimes we struggle with the transport because the roads out here aren’t the best, especially after the monsoon hits. We try to help people figure out better ways to sell their goods so they don't get cheated. It’s not always easy because old habits are hard to change. We aren't trying to change the whole world, just making life a little more stable for the families around here. If you come by Panang Kattur, you’ll see us just blending in. We don't wear uniforms or anything like that. It’s just practical work for people who live and work on the land every day without making any big fuss about it.
