Hindhustan Handicraft

We are located at number 42 in the shopping complex on Surampattinal Road. It’s a fairly easy place to find once you get into the main shopping area. We have been here for a good number of years now, selling various handicrafts that we bring in. The shop is usually packed from floor to ceiling with all sorts of things, so you have to be careful where you step. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who take turns minding the counter and helping people find what they’re looking for. It’s not a polished showroom like you might see in a big mall. We have dust on the shelves sometimes because there are so many small items to clean. We use old-fashioned paper receipts and we still write everything down in a big book. Some of the items have been sitting on the higher shelves for a while, waiting for the right person to come along. We like the pace here. It’s busy during the festival seasons, and then it gets a bit slower during the rains. We don’t really have a mission statement or anything like that. We just want to sell the items we have and make enough to keep the lights on and the shop running. It’s a simple business, really. We enjoy talking to the people who wander in out of curiosity. It’s nice to see someone find something they like after digging through the stacks. We’ll probably be here for a long time yet, just doing what we do every day. It's home.
