If you go down Kannagi Street in Thottam, you’ll find Jrj Electronics at No. 42. Gobichettipalayam is a nice place to live and work, though it’s changed a lot over the years since we first opened. We deal with electronics, mostly repairs and small gadgets that people bring in because they stopped working. The shop isn’t huge by any means. We have work benches set up with soldering irons and testing tools all over the place. It can get a bit messy when we have a lot of items waiting for spare parts to arrive in the mail. We spend most of our time looking at circuit boards or trying to figure out why a TV or a radio stopped making sound. People from the neighborhood stop in to chat or ask simple questions about their new devices. We don’t have a big storefront with flashing lights. It’s just a regular door on a regular street. The light inside is usually a bit bright because we need to see those tiny components clearly. We’ve lived around here for a long time now, so we know most of the faces that walk through the door every week. It’s steady work and we like it. Some days are quiet and we just organize the shelves, other days everyone’s stuff seems to break at once. We take it as it comes. It’s just us here, working on Kannagi Street, trying to keep the local electronics running for the folks in Thottam.
