Out here on Chennimalai Road, specifically at 126/2 in Periyavettivapalayam, is where our oil mill sits. If you're near Ellaimedu in Perundurai, you’ve probably seen us. The mill is a busy place, and it usually smells like crushed seeds and oil. It’s a strong scent, but we’ve grown to like it over time. We focus on pressing oil, which is a process that takes a lot of patience. The machines are old-school and heavy. They need a lot of looking after to keep them running smooth. We aren't a high-tech operation with robots. It’s mostly us using our hands and watching the gauges. Some days are hot, and the mill gets even hotter with the machines running, but we just keep the fans going and get through it. We are a small partnership, just a few of us trying to make a living. We don't have a big front office or anyone to answer the phones with a scripted greeting. If you call, you’ll probably just talk to one of us who is currently covered in a bit of oil. That is just the reality of the job. We don't try to make it sound better than it is. It's just hard, honest work in a local mill. We take the seeds, we press the oil, and we get it ready for sale. It keeps us busy from morning till night.
