G E M Coffee is over at 27, Baradhi Palayam, situated on Poondurai Road. We are just a short walk from the Kotak Mahindra Bank. That bank is a helpful landmark because Poondurai Road can get quite busy and it’s easy to miss a specific door if you aren't looking closely. Our place at number 27 is a regular, no-nonsense building. We’ve been here for a good while, and the walls have heard a lot of conversations over the years. We start our day when the traffic is just beginning to pick up. The work we do is pretty repetitive, but we find a lot of comfort in the routine. We don’t have any marketing people or a big sales team. It’s just us here, making sure everything is handled properly. The building has its quirks, like a door that squeaks if you don't pull it just right and a floor that isn't perfectly level in the back room. But it’s our space, and we’ve made it work for us. The neighborhood of Baradhi Palayam is a good place to be. You get to know the other business owners and the people who live nearby. We aren't trying to be a global brand or anything like that. We just want to run a solid business and be a part of the local scene. We focus on the small details and try to make sure we do a decent job every day. It’s a quiet, steady way to make a living.
