If you head down to 458, Sathy, you will find our workshop tucked away behind some other buildings. Fakhri Tools & Engineering Co. has been right here through all the changes in the neighborhood over the years. The air usually smells like machine oil and cut metal, which is something you just get used to after working here for a week. We have workbenches covered in old wrenches, bits of steel, and drawings that have seen better days. It is quite loud when the machines are running, so we usually just nod at each other instead of trying to shout over the din. The floor is solid concrete and has plenty of dark stains from years of heavy work and spills. We are not the type of people to have a polished showroom with bright lights and fancy chairs. Most of our tools are kept in heavy metal cabinets that have been here since the business first started. Some of the guys have been working these same lathes for decades and know exactly how they sound. We deal with a lot of local repairs and small engineering jobs that people bring in from the street. It gets very hot in the summer months, but we keep the big doors open to catch whatever breeze comes off the road. Sometimes the power goes out and everything goes quiet for a bit. It is honest work and it keeps us busy.
