Olavakode is a place that never really stops because of the big railway station nearby. We set up Erode Cafe here because we like the energy of the people moving around all the time. The kitchen is small and it gets very hot in there when the stoves are all going at once in the morning. We spend a lot of our time chopping vegetables and making sure the floors are scrubbed clean. It is not a big place, just a few tables and chairs that do not quite match each other. We have a regular crowd of workers and travelers who come in for a quick bite before their train leaves. I am usually at the counter or helping out in the back when it gets busy. The walls have a few pictures of the local area from years ago. We have a big ceiling fan that makes a lot of noise but it keeps the air moving for the customers. My sister handles the morning shift and I take the late one until we close. We buy our supplies from the market every morning so we know what we have. The coffee machine is old and a bit temperamental, sometimes it needs a little tap on the side to get going. We do not have any fancy menus, just a chalkboard with what we have made for the day. It is a simple life, mostly just cooking and cleaning and talking.
