Basker Stores

If you go down Sigaralahalli Road in Koorkampatty, you will find Basker Stores at number 45. We are a small general shop serving the people who live out this way. It’s a bit of a trek for some, so we try to keep a bit of everything so they don't have to go all the way into the bigger towns. We have bins full of grains and rows of canned goods and soaps. The building itself is older, with high ceilings and thick walls that keep it relatively cool even when it’s baking outside. We spend our mornings checking what we sold the day before and writing out lists for the next order. Koorkampatty is a quiet place for the most part, except for the occasional tractor or bus going past. We know most of our customers by their first names and often know what they need before they even ask. The floor is made of old stone that we mop every evening. We don't use any fancy barcodes or scanners, just a simple calculator and our memory. It’s a quiet existence, really. We enjoy the routine of opening the shop, sweeping the front step, and waiting for the first customer of the day. There isn't much excitement, but it's an honest living and we like being part of the community here on Sigaralahalli Road. We just keep the shelves stocked and the doors open for whoever needs us.
