Art Cotton Mills

Art Cotton Mills is situated at 144 Skc Main Road. It is a fairly large building because we need the space for the looms and the cotton storage. The main road is always busy with buses and motorbikes zooming past. The sound of the machinery is constant once you step inside. It is a rhythmic noise that I have grown to love over the years. I started working here when I was much younger, and now I am the one looking after things. We deal with raw cotton and turn it into fabric. It is a dusty process, so we always have the windows open when the weather allows. The Skc Main Road area has changed a lot since I first came here. More shops have opened up, but we are still here doing the same thing. I have a small office near the front entrance where I keep the books. Most of my day is spent on the floor, making sure the machines are running right. If one breaks down, it is a whole ordeal to get it fixed. We have a small crew of people who have been with us for a long time. We are more like a small family than anything else. We eat our lunch together in the shade during the hot months. It is hard work and the days are long, but there is a sense of pride when you see the finished rolls of cloth. It is just what we do here at 144 Skc Main Road.
