We are based out of the Koyipilly House in Palliport, right near Munambam. Sumatho Atlanta Exports and Imports Private Limited is the name on the papers, but to most people around here, we are just the folks at the house doing the shipping work. Being so close to the water in Munambam means we see a lot of activity. It’s a good spot for an export-import business because everything feels connected to the sea. The office is part of the house, so it’s got a very personal feel to it. You won't find any cubicles or bright fluorescent lights here. We have wooden tables and old shelves filled with files. We spend our days coordinating with people at the ports and checking on containers. It's a lot of phone calls and a lot of waiting for people to call us back. We don't have a big marketing team or anyone to write fancy speeches. We just write down what needs to go where and make sure it happens. Sometimes the monsoon makes it hard to get anything moved, so we just sit and wait for the rain to stop. We’ve been here for a while and the neighbors know us well. It’s a straightforward way to earn a living, dealing with goods coming in and out of Kerala. It’s not always easy, but it’s our daily routine and we are used to the pace of things by now.
