National Academy Of Music

The National Academy Of Music is tucked away at No.39/6088, in a building we call Parijatham on Alappatt Road. This is in the Ravipuram area of Kochi, which is a nice part of town. We’ve been here for a long time, and the sounds of instruments are pretty much a constant thing during the day. We have different rooms for different lessons, whether it’s singing or learning a specific instrument. It’s not a silent place by any means. You might hear a violin in one room and someone practicing scales in another. The building itself is a regular house that we’ve adapted over the years to fit the academy. It has a very lived-in feel. We don't have fancy soundproofing or high-end recording gear everywhere. It’s more about the practice and the learning. People from the neighborhood bring their kids here, and we also have adults who come in after their work shifts. It’s a bit of a community hub for music lovers. We don't put on airs or try to look like a big conservatory. It’s just a place where music happens in a very natural way. Sometimes the instruments need tuning or the chairs are a bit squeaky, but that’s just part of the charm of a local music school. We’re happy to be part of the Ravipuram landscape and keep the musical traditions going. It’s what we do every day of the week.
