Konnamkudy Paints

Konnamkudy Paints is situated on A M Road in Perumbavoor. It’s a straightforward kind of shop. We have rows of shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, filled with different containers and supplies. The floor is concrete and has seen a lot of boots and boxes over the years. Perumbavoor can get quite dusty, especially with all the trucks moving through A M Road, so we are always wiping down the counter. We don’t have a big team, just a few of us who know where everything is kept. Most of the people who come in are folks from the neighborhood or workers who have been coming here for a long time. We don't really do the whole fancy display thing; we just have the stuff stacked where we can reach it. There is an old radio that stays on in the background, mostly playing local news or songs. It gets quite warm in the afternoons, so we keep the front wide open and use a big standing fan to move the air around. We spend a lot of time lifting heavy things and helping people carry stuff out to their vehicles parked on the side of the road. It’s a regular routine of checking the stock, talking to the locals, and making sure the orders are ready. There’s nothing too special about the building itself, just a solid place where we do our business every day. We usually lock up around seven and head home.
