Kochin Carpets

Our place, Kochin Carpets, is over on Ky Road in Ravipuram. The official address is No.39/6137, but locals just know the Perumannur area well enough to find us. It’s a decent sized space where we keep all the rugs and floor coverings. If you walk in, the first thing you notice is that smell of wool and jute. It’s a bit heavy in the air, especially when it is humid outside. We have some carpets hanging on the walls and others are rolled up in the corners. It can be a bit of a workout moving those big heavy rolls around when someone wants to see a pattern at the bottom of the stack. We don’t have any flashy lights or big sales pitches. Mostly, we just let people walk around and touch the materials to see what they think. Sometimes we’re busy in the back dealing with orders, and other times we’re just sitting near the entrance waiting for the next person to walk in. Ravipuram is a good spot to be in. We get a mix of people, some just looking and some who know exactly what they want for their living rooms. It gets a bit rainy in this part of town, so we’re always making sure the floor stays dry and the carpets are safe. We aren't trying to be the biggest shop in Kerala, just a reliable one where you can find something for your floor. We’ve had the same sign out front for years and it is starting to fade.
