Cochin Refractories & Minerals

Cochin Refractories & Minerals is located at 13/34 in Kariyad, right across from Pathirumadam. It’s a quiet enough spot compared to the big cities. We deal with minerals and refractory materials, which are basically things that can stand a lot of heat. We have piles of raw materials sitting in the back, and it can get a bit dusty when the wind picks up. The building we are in is quite old and has high ceilings to keep it cool. We don’t have a proper showroom, just the office and the storage space. Most of our work involves weighing out batches and keeping track of what’s coming in from the mines. It’s a very practical job. We don’t spend much time worrying about how the place looks to outsiders. We have a few plastic chairs for visitors and a desk that’s been here since the business started. Sometimes we see people going to Pathirumadam and they stop to ask what we do. We just tell them we handle industrial rocks and powders. The rains here can be quite heavy, so we spend a lot of time making sure the roof doesn't leak onto the minerals. It’s just a small group of us working here every day. We know the trade well and we don’t feel the need to use big words to describe it. We just provide the materials and keep the records straight.
