Ayurjyothi'S Ayurveda Hospital

This hospital is right on the NH 47 in Nedumbassery. It’s a busy spot because of the highway and being so close to the airport area. You can hear the big trucks rolling by all day and night. It’s not a quiet, secluded place, but it is easy for people to reach. We have several beds here for people who need to stay over for a few days. The rooms are plain, just the beds and a small cupboard for belongings. We use a lot of traditional oils, so the whole building has that heavy, earthy smell that stays in your clothes. I spend a lot of time in the kitchen area preparing the decoctions. The stove is almost always going. We have a small courtyard in the middle where some herbs grow, though the heat from the sun makes it hard to keep them green sometimes. The staff here is small, mostly locals who have been with us for years. We don't have air conditioning in every room, just fans that hum loudly. It gets quite humid here, especially during the rainy season. People come in with all sorts of aches and pains, and we just do our best with the old ways. It’s a lot of hard work, scrubbing the treatment tables and washing the linen every day, but it’s what we do.
