Willingdon Island is a quiet place most days, and our office on Venkitaraman Road fits right in with that. It is at door number Xxiv/1396. We spend a lot of time here answering the phone and looking at maps. The island has its own rhythm compared to the mainland. Sometimes it gets a bit dusty when the wind comes off the water, but we just keep the fans going. It isn't a fancy setup at all. There are chairs for people to sit if they come by to talk about their trips, and we have a lot of old files from years of doing this. The building is older, but it works for us. Most mornings start with a cup of tea and looking through the emails that came in overnight. We try to keep things simple because travel can get complicated enough on its own. People usually find us because they know the area or someone told them where we are. It is not the kind of place with a big neon sign. We just handle the bookings and the transport details while the ships go by in the distance. Ernakulam is busy, but out here on the island, we have a bit more space to think. The street gets a little crowded when the shifts change at the nearby offices, but otherwise, it is just us and the local traffic. We have been here for a while now and know the neighbors pretty well.
