St Thomas Hospital

Out here in Kurisummodu P O, St Thomas Hospital is sort of a landmark for people living nearby. It is not a huge place, but it fills up fast most mornings. We usually start early, before the sun gets too high, because that’s when the first group of people arrives. Most of the staff live right around here, so we see our neighbors in the hallways all the time. It makes the place feel a bit more like a community than just a building with beds. The walls could probably use a new coat of paint in some spots, but we prioritize keeping the equipment working and the medicine stocked. Dealing with the post office nearby means there’s always people walking past. We hear the motorbikes and the buses going by throughout the day. Working here means you see a lot of different things. Some days are quiet, but those are rare. Usually, there's a bit of chaos at the front desk with people asking questions or trying to find their way to a specific room. We just point them in the right direction. We don't have a big corporate office or anything like that. It’s just a group of us trying to make sure the patients get seen. It's practical work. We stay busy with the charts and the cleaning and the daily rounds. It’s just what happens here in Kurisummodu. We have been here for years and we just keep doing what we do.
