Down here in Tillapudi Village, near Palakol, things are very tied to the water. Our seafood business is based at H.No. 1-109, and you can usually tell we are nearby because of the smell of the sea. We deal with whatever the local catch brings in, which means some days are much busier than others depending on the season. The West Godavari area has a lot of fish and prawns, and we spend our time getting them ready for transport. It is a messy job and everything is always a bit damp. We have a lot of ice around to keep things fresh, which is a constant battle in this humidity. The village is quiet, but our loading area gets pretty hectic in the early mornings when the boats are in. We have a small group of workers who are good with their hands and don't mind the cold water. The office part of the building is just a small room with a phone and some files. We don't spend much time in there though. Most of the work happens on the floor where the cleaning and packing is done. We are just a local operation trying to make a living off what the water provides. It isn't glamorous work, but it is steady and keeps the village moving along. We take each day as it comes and hope for a good catch.
