Our little spot is located over in Zakirnagar East, right in the Gulzar Akhara area of Mango. If you know Singhbhum at all, you know that Mango stays pretty active throughout the day. We are based out of Hameed Khan’s place at Punjabi Khatee. It’s not one of those huge showrooms you see in the middle of a big city mall. It’s more of a local shop where you can actually hear yourself think. We keep a variety of jewelry items in the back and in the display counters. Some days are slow and we just sit and watch the traffic go by on the street, and other days it feels like everyone in Purba Singhbhum wants a new pair of earrings at the exact same time. We don't have a big team of sales people in suits. It’s just us. We handle the pieces carefully, showing the hallmarks and explaining the bits of work on each ring or pendant. A lot of our neighbors stop by just to say hello or to ask about the price of gold that morning. We like that part of being here. It feels like we are part of the street. When someone buys something, we wrap it up in those little velvet boxes and write out the receipt by hand. It’s nothing spectacular, just a regular jewelry business doing what we do every day.
