If you know Shyam Talkies Road, then you know exactly where we are. We are at House Number 6 in Pradhan Tola. It’s a busy part of Pursudih, especially when there’s a lot of movement on the main road. The office is small and we’ve had to cram a few extra tables in lately because we’re getting more to do. There’s a constant hum of traffic outside, and you can always hear someone honking their horn. We have a small electric kettle for tea that’s always on the go because it’s the one thing that keeps us moving through the afternoon. The stairs are a bit narrow and the lighting in the hallway flickers sometimes, but we’ve gotten used to it. We don’t spend much time worrying about the furniture or how the walls look. Most of the desks are mismatched and we’ve got stacks of paper everywhere that always need sorting. When it gets hot, we open all the windows wide, even if it means a bit of noise comes in from the street. It feels like a real part of the neighborhood here. We see the same faces walking by every morning. Sometimes we stay late when there’s a lot to finish, and the streetlights outside cast long shadows across the floor. It’s just a practical space. No one wears suits or anything like that. We just show up in our regular clothes and do what needs to get done before heading home.
