The office for the Mines Manager of Uranium Corporation Of India Limited is at the Mohuldih Mines. We are part of the larger Ucil, Turamdih Complex, which is near the post office in Sundernagar, Jamshedpur 832107. Working at a mine site is very different from working in a city. Everything is more industrial and practical. Our office is right there where the action is. It is a utilitarian building designed to handle the dust and the heat of the Jamshedpur area. We have a lot of technical equipment and maps spread out on the tables. The staff here is mostly local or people who have moved specifically for the mining work. We don't have any polished floors or fancy art on the walls. It is all about the operations and making sure things are running correctly at Mohuldih. We spend a lot of time talking to the workers and checking on the progress. It is a long day and it can be quite tiring, but there is a sense of accomplishment in it. We don't use any fancy language to describe what we do. It is just hard work in a tough environment. We have our small canteen where we eat lunch and talk about things other than work for a bit. It is a very grounded life here in the complex. We just do our jobs as best as we can and look after the place. There is always something that needs fixing or checking on.
