Mahuri Variety Store

Our little shop, Mahuri Variety Store, is located in Village Dhatkidih. We are under the Post Asanboni, Tehsil Jadugoda, District, and we have been here for years. Being in a village, we have to carry a little bit of everything because the main town is a bit of a trek for most people here. We have everything from tea leaves and biscuits to small hardware items and school supplies for the kids. The store is just a basic building, nothing special to look at from the outside. Inside, we try to keep things as organized as we can, though it gets cluttered with all the different products we stock. We live right here in Dhatkidih, so our neighbors are our customers. It’s a very personal way of doing business. You hear all the local news while you are packing up someone's order. We don't have a big staff, just me and my son usually. We spend our time checking the stock and making sure we don't run out of the things people use every day. The Jadugoda district is a quiet place most of the time. We don't use any fancy marketing tricks or flashy signs. We just stay open as long as we can and try to help people find what they need. It’s hard work, especially when we have to go fetch more stock from the bigger markets, but we’ve been doing it a long time now and it feels like a good life for us.
