Stnm Hospital

This hospital is located right on NH 31 A in the Arithang area of Gangtok. If you’ve spent any time in Gangtok, you know how the roads are, and being on the national highway makes us a pretty central point for the town. We get people coming in from all over the hills. The building has been part of the Arithang landscape for a long time. It’s a sturdy place, built to handle the mountain weather and the steep terrain. Inside, it’s always busy. You have people coming in from the surrounding villages and the town itself. The hallways can be a bit chilly in the winter, but we’re used to that by now. We have different wards spread across the various floors. It’s a bit of a maze if you aren't familiar with it, with stairs going everywhere. The views from some of the windows are actually quite nice, looking out over the slopes and the other buildings, though we don't spend much time looking out. We're usually too busy with the paperwork or helping patients find the pharmacy or the right ward. It’s a government-run feel, very practical and no-nonsense. We don't have fancy carpets or designer lights. Just the basic necessities for a hospital in the hills. Most of the staff has been here for years and knows how to handle the rush. We see a lot of variety in the cases that come through. It’s a reliable spot for the community. Rain or shine, the doors are always open. It’s just how things work here on the highway.
