Up here in Gangtok, things move a bit differently than they do in the bigger cities. Our office is over in Deorali Bazar, right near the school, so it is usually pretty lively when the kids are getting out for the day. D.Dadul Bhutia is the one who handles things at this location for North Deldi Power. Even though we are connected to the bigger Tata Power network, this specific spot feels more like a local outpost. The weather in Sikkim can be a real challenge, especially when the rains start or it gets foggy on the hills, but we keep the lights on as best we can. We have got a small team here who knows the Deorali area well. It is a lot of manual checking and making sure the local infrastructure is holding up against the elements. People stop by the office to talk about their accounts or just to complain about a power flicker, and we listen and try to sort it out. It is not a shiny corporate building; it is just a functional space where we keep our tools and records. The climb up to Deorali can be steep, but the view is usually worth it if the clouds clear. We just focus on the utility work and keeping the community powered up day in and day out. It is a steady job and we take it seriously without making a big fuss.
