Indian Construction

Way out here in Bahichard, we have been running Indian Construction for a long time. It is a small village in the Tamluk area of Purba Medinipur, and everyone around here knows everyone else. We don’t have a big office building; it is more of a local operation where we keep our equipment and meet up in the mornings. West Bengal can be a tough place to work during the monsoon season, so we have to plan our jobs carefully. We do a lot of the local building work, mostly small houses or sheds for the people in the nearby villages. It is not the kind of work that gets written about in papers, but it is important for the folks living here. Most of our guys grew up in this district, so we understand how things work and what people need. We don't use any fancy language or try to sound like we are bigger than we are. We are just a group of workers who know how to mix cement and lay bricks. Sometimes the supplies take a while to reach us from the main town, but we make do with what we have. It’s a quiet life in the village, and we like it that way. We spend our days on the ground, making sure the foundations are solid and the walls are straight. It is just what we do.
